What is your shipping policy?
We ship by United Parcel Service. Orders processed today are normally shipped the next business day. Certain perishable meat items, cheesecakes and cheeses are not shipped over the weekend but are shipped the next business day to arrive during the week. What are the differences between a Smithfield and Virginia Country ham?
Both products are dry-cured hams, salted and smoked in a Virginia tradition that goes back over 200 years. Typically, Virginia Country hams are cured, smoked and aged three or more months before being sold. Smithfield hams are cured and smoked, and aged longer-nine to twelve months. Both hams have a dry-cure salty taste. Whole country hams weigh between 13-15 pounds whereas Smithfield hams on average weigh 2-3 pounds more because of the longer leg shank.

Do you sell a ham that has less salt content and taste than the traditional Virginia Country and Smithfield ham?

How do you recommend slicing a Virginia and Smithfield ham for serving?
Instructions are sent with our products on slicing and caring for each ham. Slice our products using a sharp kitchen knife and slice "wafer-thin" or no more than 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch. Please slice our hams just prior to serving.

Will soaking my uncooked Virginia or Smithfield ham overnight reduce the salty taste content?
Some salt from the surface of the product will be removed upon soaking, however, the product will always taste mildly salty because of the dry-curing process. Additional soaking may eliminate this salty taste but it will not be completely removed from the product. Please only soak uncooked (cloth sack) hams. Change the water several times when soaking.

I have received an uncooked ham. How do you cook a Smithfield or Virginia Country Ham?

Do you ship out of the United States?
No, we cannot ship to foreign countries because of foreign import restrictions.

How many people can I expect to serve upon purchase of my whole Virginia or Smithfield ham?
Sliced "wafer-thin" each ham will provide up to 250-300 small party biscuits or rolls. Serving as a meal, up to thirty people can enjoy each ham.

Can you ship my purchase overnight?
Yes, we provide overnight guaranteed shipping via United Parcel Service (UPS), however, you must pay for this service. We also offer 2nd Day guaranteed delivery via UPS at an additional charge. Each item has a standard shipping fee in additional to a Next Day or Second Day UPS fee. For more information regarding shipping, please visit our Shipping Policy page.

How do I notify you if I wish to cancel or change my completed online order?
Once you submit an order for processing to us, you will be provided with an order or transaction number from our email server. If you desire to change your original order such as add items, delete items, shipping dates or cancel your original order, please email us immediately at info@smithfieldcollection.com and include your transaction number(s) in any email you send to us. Please understand, however, that in some instances, your original order may have already shipped before notification of cancellation and we may not be able to help you further at that point.

Is my online purchase subject to any sales taxes?
You are subject to a 4% Virginia sales tax on all items purchased (except shipping or handling fees) if you are shipping items to Virginia or if you are a purchaser that resides in Virginia. Otherwise, we do not charge any other sales taxes.

Do you have an online privacy policy?
Yes, please see our privacy policy. Our general policy is not to sell or trade your name and address with any other retailer or trade group. The only exception to this policy is if The Smithfield Collection is sold to another legal entity.

What payment options do you accept for online orders and how are credit card payments processed?
We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Credit cards are authorized online at the point of purchase submittal. If your credit card is declined for any reason, please contact your credit card issuer for resolution.

How are product returns handled and is my credit card credited?If you are not pleased with any of the products you have purchased from us, please email us immediately at info@smithfieldcollection.com with a complete written explanation. We will respond with a proper resolution. Please do not return any product to us without our written approval. If you are due a credit from us, we will process any credit transaction within 7 business days and notify your credit card issuer.

How long can most of the meat items be kept refrigerated?
Any meat item already cooked should be refrigerated to prevent spoilage. In many instances, you can refrigerate for up to six months or longer except our cheesecakes, which should be consumed within several weeks upon receipt. Uncooked meat products should be hung in a dry, cool place like a garage until cooked or you can refrigerate.

What do I do if my ham arrives with mold on the surface?
Mold appears only on uncooked ham or bacon products. Simply wash off in hot water and scrub mold off with a stiff brush before cooking. Like fine aged cheese, dry cured hams and bacon tend to mold under certain conditions.

Do you sell your 7 ounce jar of Smithfield deviled ham in retail stores?Our deviled ham is a very popular item and on occasion you may find it in various retail gift and food stores primarily located with the Mid Atlantic region.
